OTIS
With a name like OTIS, it's just got to be good. OTIS stands for Online Transit Information System, and it lets you find out how to get around San Diego using the Metropolitan Transit System's buses, trolleys and trains. See www.sdcommute.com.
AIRPORT
Drive down the 5 freeway and you feel like you should duck; you're traveling right below the flight path for San Diego International Airport. It’s always a kick to see giant aircraft land below you as you motor along. Be sure to allow yourself at least two hours for airline check-in and to pass through security.
For international flight departures allow three hours, and make sure you thank all those great folks working for the Department of Homeland Security for the huge improvements they have made to wait times and long lines. Or not.
In addition to eight general aviation airports operated by the County, the City operates Brown Field and Montgomery Field, which are two general aviation airports.
Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner and the Coaster at Amtrak's Santa Fe Depot train station downtown also connect with San Diego International Airport. Use Metropolitan Transit System Flyer Route No. 992; trains run every 10 minutes between 5:00 a.m. and 12:50 a.m. The Amtrak train operates seven days a week, 365 days per year, and makes 12 round trips.
Amtrak
The Amtrak Intercity and Coaster commuter trains travel north to Los Angeles and Orange Counties, to downtown San Diego and coastal North County, and makes many stops along the way. The Coaster operates Monday to Saturday, but not Sunday or major holidays.
Metro Bus
It travels between the Airport and downtown San Diego, and also connects with the trolley, the Coaster and Amtrak stations, and is wheelchair accessible. Use the Online Transit Information System.
San Diego Trolley
This convenient means of transport links many neighborhoods with popular attractions and landmarks, including Old Town, but it does not stop at the airport. |
